GS and Co. is a small design firm specializing in residential projects in the Washington DC area and Reykjavik, Iceland. Projects range in size from major additions to jewel box powder room renovations.
The firm, established in 2003, is led by Gerdur Sigfusson. She earned her Master in Architecture from MIT in 1997, where she received many awards and honors along the way. Gerdur also holds degrees in Interior Design, French, and Studio Art.
Icelandic parents with astounding foresight named her Gerður, which comes from the ancient Nordic word “garður” (wall), meaning “protection”. Since moving from Iceland to the US at age 11, she’s become accustomed to explaining her unusual Viking name and how to pronounce it. Say ‘Gerdur’ as in ‘together‘, or like ‘Heather with a G’.
